NEGRENSE pair Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato jumpstarted their title-retention bid by clinching a quarterfinals seat in the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour: Dumaguete Open on Friday at the Rizal Boulevard sand court in Dumaguete City.
Polidario and Magdato swept their pool matches when it dominated LNMB-Negros’ Kathrina Epa and Chloe Tumpag, 21-10, 21-6, and Air Force 1’s May Ann Pantino and Jozza Cabalsa, 21-11, 21-7.
Aiming for their third title as in many legs, Negrense Bea Tan and Dij Rodriguez also had a winning start in Pool B with a 21-11, 15-21, 15-4 decision over Ilonggas Roma Joy and Roma Mae Doromal of NU-Boysen.
In other women’s matches, Smash Bacolod’s Bianca Lizares and Jennifer Cosas downed Sipalay’s Jessalen Moises and Gellimae Villanueva, 21-17, 21-17. Moises and Villanueva also lost to Hong Kong’s Yuen Ting Chi and Lok Shun, 20-22, 21-12, 15-9.
University of St. La Salle-Bacolod’s Nohlin Jundana and Ceejay Recayo, meanwhile, were defeated by Rizal Technological University’s Reyann Cañete and Sayrel Bermeo, 17-21, 23-21, 15-9.
University of St. La Salle’s Herold Parcia and Deanne Neil Depedro also make it to the quarterfinals in the men’s division when it defeated Dumaguete’s Buen Sayson and Reynald Catipay, 21-12, 21-19.
Gandang Laban-Aklan’s Raw-sa Inaudito and Nichol Jundana also moved on to the final eight after making a quick work of CSA-Bacolod’s Marvin Haresco and Mike Antonio Badian, 21-16, 21-19./PN
