MANILA – Bliss Bayking will represent the Philippines in the 2018 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Future Stars at the Kallang Tennis Centre in Singapore.
The San Carlos City, Negros Occidental native and Macie Carlos of the National Capital Region will suit up for the U-16 and U-14 categories, respectively, of the Oct. 16 to 21 event.
Bayking and Carlos were sent to the Singapore event after topping the Philippine qualifiers of the WTA Junior Race to Singapore in September in Makati.
Carlos, the country’s top U-14 female player, dominated Mica Emana 6-1, 6-2 to win her age class while Bayking finished off Justine Maneja in the U-16 finale 6-4, 6-1.
Forty-six players in the Singapore tournament are competing to be called the best rising female tennis player in Asia and the Pacific.
“I am confident that Macie Carlos and Bliss Bayking will perform well,” said Unified Tennis Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
“I have seen how they play, and I am convinced that they have what it takes to go head-to-head with some of the world’s elite tennis players,” Lhuillier added./PN
