Negrense Nonoy shines as Terrafirma upsets TNT

MANILA – Terrafirma Dyip concluded its 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign with a resounding 117-108 stunner against TNT Tropang Giga on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Negrense Mark Nonoy finished with a career-high of 33 points, including five three-point conversions and two four-point shots, to go with four rebounds and four assists as the Dyip ended the conference with 1-11 win-loss slate.

Sobrang thankful ko sa coaches and teammates ko, ups and down ‘yung team namin but we stick together, ‘yung iba nawawalan na ng gana pero kumbaga last push na kasi last game na namin,” Nonoy said in a post-game interview.

“Pinagkatiwalaan kami ng coaches and nag-respond din kami as a team, so sobrang thankful ako na bago mag-end ‘yung conference nakakuha kami ng panalo,” added the former De La Salle University Green Archers guard.

Brandone Edwards tallied 19 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, Mark Sangalang contributed 16 markers, while Aljun Melecio and Kemark Carino ended with 10 points apiece for the Dyip.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson recorded 41 points and 10 rebounds, Calvin Oftana added 17 markers, while Rey Nambatac and Jayson Castro had 12 and 11, respectively, as the Tropang Giga dropped to a 6-3 record. 

Meanwhile, Kadeem Jack converted a go-ahead basket as NorthPort Batang Pier escaped with a 105-104 victory over San Miguel Beermen to move up to second place in the standings.

Leading by as many as 24 points early in the third quarter, the Batang Pier suddenly saw themselves trailing at 104-103 following two free throws by Beermen’s Jaymar Perez with 26 seconds left.

The Batang Pier managed to regain the lead at 105-104 on a short jumper by Jack with 16 seconds left before they forced Beermen’s Juan Miguel Tiongon to have a tough basket attempt at the buzzer.

Jack led the way with 38 points, Arvin Tolentino added 22 markers, while William Navarro and Joshua Munzon contributed 17 and 12 points, respectively, as the Batang Pier hiked their record to 8-3. The Beermen dropped to 4-6./PN
