Negrense paddlers rule Gov’s Cup table tennis invitational

NEGRENSE paddlers bested foes from across the country, dominating the Governor’s Cup Invitational Table Tennis Championship held recently at SM City Bacolod Main Atrium.

Dirk Nickholle Atilano claimed the championship in the 13-and-under boys category by defeating Antimony Ginete in the finals. Klyde Denmel Repullo, meanwhile, settled for bronze medal.

Alfranzen Arisco, meanwhile, bagged the gold medal in the 13-and-under girls category when she edged Dianah Yapiso in the finals. Nekka Therese Daguia salvaged a third place finish.

John Michael Castro, for his part, ruled the men’s open category after a tightly-contested victory over Ryan Buenaventura in the finals. Ken Memoria bagged the bronze medal.

Frances Elaine Arguelles was hailed as the champion in the women’s open category after defeating Micah Tanate in the gold medal match. Bea Pauline Canalin captured the bronze.

For the men’s executive – Ervin Bomban ruled the division followed by Jay Canalin and Santiago Saligumba Jr.

Marichu Claver dominated the women’s executive category A while Timon Villanueva and Vanessa Puentevella were named runners-up.

In women’s executive category B, Ruby Ann Longno was named champion followed by Romela Jardinico and Ning Banquillio; while Robert Arteche ruled the veteran’s category with Peter Lim and Steven Rong as runners-up.

Around 200 paddlers from Negros Occidental, neighboring provinces of Antique and Leyte, Metro Manila, and a player from Japan have participated in the three-day table tennis event./PN
