MANILA – Negrense senator Juan Miguel Zubiri has been cleared of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after he tested negative for it two straight times.

The Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental-native confirmed this on a Facebook post on April 12.

Zubiri said: “Just received the happiest news ever of my second negative result from the Makati City Health Office, which is a requirement for all COVID-positive patients to be considered as recovered.”

“I would also like to thank God and our Lord for a second chance in my life by healing me from COVID-19,” he added.

Zubiri was the second senator aside from Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara to have recovered from the disease, which first broke out in China’s central city of Wuhan.

Both the senators earlier said that they would contribute plasma from their blood to help the ongoing research in treating the illness.

They also vowed to file measures that aim to strengthen the country’s medical and scientific defenses against infectious diseases.

It was on March 16 that Zubiri announced he tested positive for COVID-19. Despite being asymptomatic after 14 days, the Negrense senator extended his quarantine to 21 days./PN
