MANILA – Filipino boxer Genesis Servania is up for the biggest fight in his career. He faces Mexican Oscar Valdez for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight championship today at the Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona.
It will be the first world title fight of Servania, who is pumped up heading into the match after disposing Filipino Ralph John Lulu for the WBO Asia Pacific featherweight belt last April in Japan.
The Bacolod City, Negros Occidental-native Servania knows what is at stake in the bout and that is why he prepared hard for the world title clash since it was announced on August.
“I have long been waiting for this kind of match,” Servania told Panay News. “Fighting for a world championship has been my dream ever since. I think this fight is for me to win.”
Both fighters have showed readiness for the fight with Servania tipping the scales at 125.4 pounds, while Valdez had 125.8 pounds during the weigh-in yesterday.
The 25-year-old Servania will be parading a perfect 29-0-0 win-loss-draw ring record, including 12 KO wins. Among Servania’s wins are against veterans Gerson Guerrero, Genaro Garcia, Konosuke Tomiyama, Rafael Concepcion and Jose Cabrera.
Valdez, meanwhile, will also have an unblemished record of 22-0-0, including 19 victories by way of stoppages. This will be the Mexican’s third title defense after previously beating Miguel Marriaga and Hiroshige Osawa./PN
