MANILA – The Philippine softball team, representing the Asia-Pacific, kept its unbeaten record after scoring two more wins in the 2017 Senior League Softball World Series on Thursday (Friday in Manila) at Lower Sussex Little League Park in Delaware, USA.
The Philippine seniors softball team, represented by Domingo Lacson National High School, continued its winning run by beating the Southwest team (6-1) and Host squad (1-0).
Against the Southwest team, the Asia-Pacific took an early lead in the first inning by scoring three runs. Kaith Ezra Jaladoni sealed the victory for the Philippines. She went seven innings, giving up one run, four hits, striking out 16.
Asia-Pacific finished the match with 11 hits courtesy of Jalandoni, Mary Joy Maguad, Neo May Mahinay and, Angela Solidarios. Chastene Jover had 17 chances in the field, the most in the team.
Against the host team, meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific leaned on Jaladoni, who allowed just four hits and struck out host’s Jakayla Sample to claim its fourth victory in as many games.
Jaladoni earned the victory for Asia-Pacific by tossing nine innings, while giving out zero runs, four hits, 18 strikes and walking zero.
Maguad went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Asia-Pacific in hits.
Other members of the Negros Occidental-based team were Joesiemers Maguad, Glecilyn Alipato, April Gonzales, Ma. Victoria Magbanua, Glory Alonzo, April Minanga, and Mea Tubongbanua.
The Philippines earned the right to represent the Asia-Pacific in the prestigious tournament after topping the seniors division of the 2017 Asia-Pacific Softball Regional Tournament last June at the Singapore American School in Woodlands, Singapore./PN
