Negrense spikers gear up for WVPRISAA

AFTER ruling the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019, the Negros Occidental secondary girls and boys volleyball squads are aiming to extend their domination in the 2019 WVPRISAA Meet.

The secondary girls volleyball team, represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, is eyeing a title repeat in the weeklong tournament which starts today in Negros Occidental.

Thunderbolts assistant coach Biboy Calamba told the Buzzer Beater they have the tools to repeat and represent Western Visayas in the National PRISAA with its intact lineup.

“We like our chances because we have the same lineup as in the WVRAA Meet,” Calamba said. “But we cannot take for granted our opponents because we know na naghanda rin sila.”

Leading the way for the Negros girls volleyball team are team captain Shane Carmona, Joan Marie Monares, Erika Deloria Kiesha Bedonia, Beatrice Decena, and Katherine Shane Cortez.

Completing the team to be handled by Ian Macariola are Rhean Almendralejo, Kyrzten Annikha Cabasac, Alyssa Bertolano, Aurea Claudette Alvero, Dya Mejos, Gwen Banas, and Nicolei Galvan.

Meanwhile, the Negros secondary boys volleyball team are also raring to extend their dominance in the WVPRISAA Meet after recently ending their seven-year title drought in WVRAA Meet.

Head coach Michael Larroza said his squad, mostly composed of players from Living Stones International School, is still hungry to win another championship even with tough opponents on their way.

Bannering the secondary boys volleyball squad are Laurence Clair Alaban, Kristoffer John Salvatierra, Vince Emmanuel Hofilena, John Kade Parreno, and Jian Matthew Salarzon.

Making up the lineup are Leo Ordiales, Rhodson Du-ot, Cliff Necole Pacieno, Hilary Ace Praico, Noel Samson Jr., Gregorio Romeo Montinola, Jerry Mar Estrado, Laurence Javier, and James Luis Japitana.

Larroza will also have a squad in the secondary boys beach volleyball, which is to be led by veterans Japitana, Javier and James Smile Dulman.

“We are not contented that we were able to regain the WVRAA Meet title after seven years but the guys are still hungry and have committed to give their 100 percent to also win the WVPRISAA Meet,” Larroza said./PN
