MANILA – Bea Tan and Charo Soriano of Seda Hotel clinched the Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour women’s division title on Sunday at the Lio Beach in El Nido, Palawan.
Tan, a native of Negros Occidental, and her former Ateneo Lady Eagles teammate Soriano beat Ilongga Roma Doromal and Angelique Gervacio of Perlas 21-16, 21-19.
It was the second time this year that Soriano and Tan captured a BVR leg title. They also topped the Puerto Galera leg in January.
In the semifinal round Soriano and Tan bested Lio Crusaders’ Sydney Eleazar and Paulina Ong 21-10, 21-7 while Gervacio and Doromal turned back Bea’s younger sister Gizelle Tan and Ria Lo 21-10, 21-5.
Other participating teams in the women’s division were Air Force 1’s Mariel Legaspi and Mae Crisostomo, Air Force 2’s Coyah Abanto and Jen Acain, and PSU’s April Sayang and Zarah Javarez.
MEN’S SIDE
Former University of Santo Tomas standout Kris Roy Guzman and Ian Yee, meanwhile, bagged the men’s edition championship as they prevailed over DAF-ARMM’s Hach Gilbuena and Edmar Flores 21-15, 21-17.
This was Guzman and Yee first BVR title as a pair. The championship was also the first for Guzman since winning back-to-back with Krung Arbasto in the Cabugao, Ilocos Sur and Dagupan legs earlier last year.
Other participants in the men’s side were Air Force’s Philip Nuñez and Mike Abria, Army’s Joshua Barrica and Randy Flores, Manila Unicorns’ Neil Flores and Justin Santos, Wildcard’s Mikhail Shavrak and James Buytrago, and PSU’s Janry Corpuz and Allan Aborot.
