NEGRENSE Franz Gela Romualdo Bintad committed to play for the athletics team of the De La Salle University after finishing her eligibility with the Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

The Escalante City, Negros Occidental native confirmed her decision to join the Lady Archers athletics team after receiving several offers from Manila-based universities and colleges.

“It is flattering to receive offers from prestigious universities from Manila. It motivates me further to continue improving my game, especially on my pet events,” Bintad said. “But I have decided to go to DLSU.”

“They were the first to talk to me during the Chinese Meet last year,” she added. “I am looking forward to move there. I know that I have to adjust again but that is part of life. I will not waste this opportunity.”

Jose Montalbo, Bacolod Tay Tung’s team manager, said the 18-year-old trickster chose to commit to the Lady Archers after examining the offers provided by the Manila-based universities.

Si (DLSU athletics) coach Joffrey (Chua) has approached us since last year but we still wait for the offers from other schools. And Franz decided to accept the La Salle offer because she thinks it is what’s best for her sports and education wise,” Montalbo said.

Bintad was fresh from her final competition for Bacolod Tay Tung when she captured gold medals in the discus throw and javelin throw event of Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Track and Field Invitational Cup at Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Bintad was also a decorated player as she represented and won gold medals for Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa and in National Private Schools Athletic Association./PN
