MANILA – Shanden Vergara netted two goals as the De La Salle University Green Archers scored a 4-2 win over Adamson University Falcons in UAAP Season 81 men’s football on Sunday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
The San Carlos City, Negros Occidental native midfielder converted a brace in the second half as the Green Archers got back on the winning track after losing the last three matches.
The Falcons drew first blood in the match after Green Archers goalkeeper Franz Brosoto accidentally palmed Jusuel Pilarca’s corner kick into his own net but DLSU managed to tie things up at the half on Mateo Alegre hit.
Jhon Rhey Lagura handed the Green Archers a 2-1 lead at the 63rd minute with a cool finish. Vergara then put the game away with back-to-back conversions at the 67th and 69th minute.
Jusuel Pilarca scored another goal for the Falcons three minutes from time while Ralph Revillas was ejected after he incurred two yellow cards but the game was already settled by then.
“We have to do better than the first round. First round we won against Adamson so definitely we had to win sa second round,” said Green Archers head coach Alvin Ocampo.
With the victory, the Green Archers have boosted its Final Four run with 16 points, while the Falcons remains behind with just eight points./PN
