BACOLOD City – From representing Negros Occidental and Western Visayas, tracksters Bernalyn Bejoy and Ann Katherine Quitoy are now set to hoist the country’s flag in the international stage.
Bejoy and Quitoy were both part of the national squad that will compete in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with the former competing in the 400-meter hurdles and the latter in javelin throw.
Bejoy, an incoming rookie for the De La Salle University athletics team, said she was surprised to earn the slot to compete in the biennial competition.
“Sobrang saya dahil hindi ko po in-expect na ‘yung performance ko ay enough na qualify sa SEA Games,” said Bejoy, a former Romanito Maravilla National High School standout.
“Iba po ‘yung saya kasi I am not of the national team but I was given a chance to compete sa SEA Games due to my performance this year,” she added.
Quitoy, who is also from Romanito Maravilla National High School, said it was a dream come true for her to play in the SEA Games and in front of fellow Filipinos.
“Noon pangarap ko lang itong makalaro sa SEA Games, pero ngayon nagkatotoo na at maganda pa dun ay sa Philippines ‘yung SEA Games this year,” Quitoy added.
“Madami po ang gustong mag-compete sa SEA Games, particularly sa javelin throw, so I am blessed na nag-qualify ako,”she said.
