MANILA – After the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons-bound Alyssa Bertolano, two more Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts’ volleybelles are set to ply their trade in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Thunderbolts assistant coach, Roberto Calamba Jr. said middle blockers Juliane Monares and Kiesha Bedonia have formalized their commitments with the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws.

“It’s a done deal,” Calamba told Panay News on Sunday. “The two were not strangers to (Lady Tamaraws head) coach George (Pascua) as he saw them when Bacolod Tay Tung played a tune up game with FEU last year.”

Monares, a native of Bacolod City, expressed her readiness to embrace the pressure as she promised not to let go of the opportunity given by the team with the most UAAP women’s volleyball championships.

“It is an honor to wear the colors of FEU and I am taking this chance to reach my goals as a student-athlete and as a daughter,” said Monares, a former standout of St. Joseph School-La Salle before moving to Bacolod Tay Tung.

“I am certain that there will be a lot of adjustments but I hope that whatever skill and ability that I have can be of help to FEU,” she added. “I also look forward to improve my game with the guidance of the FEU coaches.”

Bedonia, for her part, exclaimed that being recruited by the Lady Tamaraws is a fulfillment of an aspiration as FEU is one of her dream schools for college aside from the University of Santo Tomas.

“It’s a dream come true for me to play for FEU,” she said. “I am looking forward to have a great time there. I also look forward to build a stronger bond and chemistry with my teammates.”

“There is pressure to play in UAAP but I am ready whatever coach George will ask me to do… I will try to contribute as much as I can to help FEU in UAAP,” added Bedonia, who will join fellow Talisaynon Nikka Medina at FEU.

The arrival of Monares and Bedonia proved to be timely for the Lady Tamaraws following the decisions of Czarina Carandang, Gel Cayuna, Celine Domingo, Chin Basas, and Carlota Hernandez to forego their final year of eligibility./PN
