Negros-based rebels ‘have new leader’

BACOLOD City – The New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Island has a new leader, according to 303rd Infantry Brigade (IB) commander Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo.

Arevalo identified the new NPA leader as Rogelio Posadas, who also leads NPA groups based in Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor.

Posadas, according to the Army commander, took over after Frank Fernandez – a murder suspect and an alleged NPA leader – was arrested earlier this year in Laguna.

Fernandez has been placed under hospital arrest at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City, Metro Manila since.

The 303rd IB, meanwhile, is conducting military operations against Posadas./PN
