NEGROS Occidental scored 3-0 against Iloilo in the secondary boys football finals of the 2018 WVPRISAA Meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
The Tuesday finale was brawl-free – unlike its counterpart in the recently concluded WVRAA Meet, which resulted in the returning Negros losing to the Ilonggos via forfeiture.
Bryant John Alianza, John Niel Panes and Mark Christian Gubatayao scored a goal each for Negros, which will represent Western Visayas in the National PRISAA in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Negros went aggressive early with multiple attempts before finally scoring one courtesy of Alianza. This was quickly followed by a conversion from Panes, which stretched the advantage at the half.
Iloilo tried its best to recover in the second half but cannot find a decent shot with a tight Negros defense. The Negrenses raised the lead to 3 later on courtesy of Gubatayao.
Prior to their gold-medal encounter, Negros and Iloilo split their two elimination round encounters, with the latter taking the first game 2-1 on Monday before the former responded 3-1 in the second game on Tuesday morning.
This was the second time in two weeks that Iloilo and Negros figured in a championship football match, but this one was much more desirable than the WVRAA Meet finals.
That controversial game was halted just 20 minutes into it after Ilonggo referee Steve Supresencia, Negros Occidental head coach Ian Combate and some of his players figured in a brawl./PN
