Negros, Capiz, Aklan clinch medals in PSC Visayas Open

MANILA – Athletes from Negros Occidental, Capiz and Aklan also made their mark in the table tennis and badminton events of the 2018 Philippine Sports Commission Visayas Open in Ormoc, Leyte.

Neka Daguia of St. Scholastica’s Academy captured the gold medal in the girls’ 12-and-under category table tennis after defeating Dirk Nhickolle Atilano of La Carlota City in the championship match.

Fea Arguelles and Ken Andrei Memoria, both mainstays of the Negros Occidental High School, also took home gold and bronze medals in the girls 16-and-under and boys 13-and-under categories of table tennis.

Elementary table tennis players from Sigma Elementary School in Sigma, Capiz also had a silver and bronze medals finish courtesy of Andrea Deondo and Rammel Dizon, respectively.

Prior to the Ormoc leg, Dizon captured a gold medal in his category in the Iloilo leg while Deondo had a silver.

Meanwhile, two athletes based in Kalibo, Aklan in Ryle Barrida and Levi Yangco captured a gold and silver medal, respectively, in the 14-and-under boys badminton event.

The PSC Visayas Open, which featured seven regular sports and three demonstrative sports, aimed to discover and develop next generation athletes that will represent the country in international competitions./PN
