MANILA – Negros First ended up on seventh place in the 2018 Little League Softball World Series after a 6-0 victory over Southeast on Friday at the Alpenrose Stadium in Portland, Oregon.
Mary Joy Alpitche, a native of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, was the winning pitcher for the Negrense softball squad as she surrendered zero runs on four hits over six innings while also striking out three.
Representing the Philippines and Asia-Pacific, Negros First tallied 11 hits with Kenchie Tan, Mary Joy, Neavia Marie Emborniza, and Trisha Karyl Hicayen each having multiple hits.
Kayleigh Quesinberry, the lone bright spot for Southeast in the fourth inning, took the loss for her squad as she lasted six innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out six.
Ava Saul led Southeast with two hits in three at bats. Southeast did not commit a single error in the field. Kyleigh Bacon had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
The Negrense team of head coach Lizvi Jalandoni earned the right to represent the Philippines to the World Series after dominating the Asia-Pacific qualifying games in Singapore in July.
Central clinched the championship after a 3-0 victory over East while Southwest captured the third place trophy with a lopsided 12-5 triumph over Oregon District 4./PN
