NEGROS Occidental girls volleyball team is aiming for a title repeat in the secondary girls volleyball event of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) 2019, which will start on Feb. 17 in Roxas City.

Joan Marie Monares and Erika Deloria said they have lengthy preparation for the meet that served as qualifier for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City with other teams determined to knock off the crown from their head.

“Our preparation started last December and even on Christmas break and Sundays we are training because we are determined to keep our throne and to play again in Palarong Pambansa,” Deloria said.

“Not because we are the defending champions ay we will be complacent because the other teams were also eager to beat us,” Monares said. “As one of the seniors of the team, hindi ako papayag na matalo kami. Lalaban kami until the end.”

Also in the Negros volleyball squad were Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts standouts Shane Carmona, Kiesha Bedonia, Beatrice Decena, and Katherine Shane Cortez.

Completing the team to be handled by Ian Macariola were Rhean Almendralejo, Kyrzten Annikha Cabasac, Alyssa Bertolano, Aurea Claudette Alvero, Melody Pons of Talisay, and Myrtle Escanlar of Pontevedra.

Thunderbolts earned the right to represent Negros Occidental in the WVRAA meet after topping the Palarong Panlalawigan secondary girls volleyball tournament last December./PN
