NEGROS Occidental and Iloilo province secondary girls volleyball teams cruised to 2-0 starts in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019 on Monday at the CPC Engineering Department in Roxas City.
Kiesha Bedonia stood tall with her services as the Negrenses kicked off its title-retention bid with a 25-12, 25-16 victory over Guimaras before following it up with 25-10, 25-10 domination over Antique.
Last year’s runner-up Iloilo Province, meanwhile, leaned on the exploits of Juliet Apostol and Chrisann Susbilla to score 25-16, 25-14 sweep over and 25-13, 25-11 rout over host team Capiz.
On the other hand, the Negros secondary boys volleyball team, which were represented by Living Stones International School, bounced back with a three-set win over Guimaras after losing to Antique earlier in the day.
In basketball, Capiz tallied a 77-41 victory over Guimaras in secondary boys, while Aklan cruised to a 52-44 triumph over Antique in secondary girls and Capiz walloped Aklan, 66-29, in elementary boys.
In secondary boys 3×3 basketball, the Negros squad of Andy Villaver, Ralph Cagalawan, Kent Esparagoza and Rommel Hechanova scored a 21-19 win over Capiz, a 17-14 decision over Guimaras and a 15-13 escape over Iloilo.
In baseball, Guimaras edged Antique, 20-0, in elementary boys action, while Iloilo walloped Guimaras, 9-2, in secondary boys. In secondary girls futsal, Aklan cruised to a 2-1 win over Guimaras.
Negros Occidental, meanwhile, started its title defense in the secondary boys football with a 5-1 victory over Capiz, while Capiz escaped with a 1-0 win over Aklan in elementary boys match./PN
