MANILA – Negros Occidental and Iloilo province made their last push in the final day of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019 yesterday at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.
Bernalyn Bejoy bagged her four gold medal for Negros in 400-meter hurdles with teammate Jennifer Hudierez snagging silver.
Angel Ann Pranisa, Ann Katherine Quitoy, April Santos, and Chris Ann Dayanan also had gold medals.
In archery, Natina Okamoto bagged two golds while Juliane Ashely Rongo also added to her gold medal. Same with Salvador Escalante who had a gold-bronze finish with Jose Luis Tongoy.
Negros Occidental also clinched golds from elementary swimmers Clarence Garcia, Benedict Sabido, Troy Castor, Jaime Sy, Ralph Emplamado, Jefran Ditchela, Daven Patrimonio, Kevin Calamay, and Busty Jalandra.
Also splashing golds were Negrense swimmers Matthew Pablo, Chrisella Los Banes, Alexi Uy, Sharese Medel, Anne Javelona, Alexi Cabayaran, Rianna Montelibano, Aliah Lopez, and Sophia Mallorca.
Negros also got taekwondo golds from Roem Ayuban, Carlo Miravilles, Faith Arguelles, Arianne Espida, Mary Alcantara, and Rica Antonares; badminton’s Clarence Villaflor, Katrina Consing, Cheska Lomugdang, Lovic Javier, and Khylle Agura; and Carmille Buhat of billiards.
Iloilo, meanwhile, chipped in gold medals from archery courtesy of Jose Garcia, Ric Magapa, Shann Sumagaysay, Immanuel Tangliben, Danielle Deramos, Mae Lyn Navarro, Coney Pama, and Yna Teruel.
Ilonggos also harvested gold in badminton from Johnyl Mialda, Charles Bagasbas, Ray Angelo Pedron, Kharyll Rio, Maria Belen, Julian Labinghisa, Kevin John Patricio, Althea Hernandez, Ma. Rhyllyn Pedron, and Andrea Hernandez.
Taekwondo jins Ronald Pido, Angela Joy Bermejo, Seth Porquez, Sherimei Hojilla, and Sophia Grace Go delivered gold for Iloilo; same with swimmers Mikaela Saac, Jillian Bata, Dee Cathedrilla, Jaynelle Militar, Kristine Remollana, and Dee Cathedrilla.
Other Iloilo golds were from arnis’ Rolly Caingeoy, Brix Jaque, Allen Garrino, Lenar Avance, and Allen Garrino; athletics’ Justine Franco, Reynald Tanate, Vince Buhayan, and Angelyn Ortiz; badminton’s Marco Macalintal and Stephen Catipon; and boxer Harry Camacho.
Host Capiz also had a strong push in swimming with Mark Anthony Garcia delivering four golds; Jemwell de Felipe and Jonna Cortel for athletics; Elijah Alvarez in billiards; Sean Falcis, Mikko Regala, Neil Datiles, and Allyah Eusalan in taekwondo.
Antique got golds from archers Eujohn Osorio and Mary Fe Bonpat; taekwondo jins’ Mikaela Montinola, Jean Durana and Yanna Pe; and swimmer Theone Fedelicio.
Aklan got four swimming golds from Emmanuel Solina and one from Janine De Goma; John Aala of arnis and Adrian Braulio of boxing.
Guimaras added a gold courtesy of boxer Rodel Ortiz.
In the medal tally on Friday morning, Iloilo finished on top in secondary division with 99 golds, 73 silver and 45 bronze medals followed by Negros Occidental (83-84-55), Aklan (17-32-61), Capiz (12-12-38), Antique (10-10-31), and Guimaras (5-14-35).
Negros Occidental, meanwhile, ruled the elementary category with 78-57-35 gold-silver-bronze medals followed by Iloilo (48-54-48), Capiz (10-18-33), Aklan (6-7-23), Guimaras (5-10-22), and Antique (4-5-13)./PN
