Negros labor groups unite for wage increase

BACOLOD City – To mark Labor Day today, labor groups in Negros Occidental will hold a series of activities advancing their call for a wage increase.

United Labor Alliance-Negros (ULAN) is calling for a P750 across-the-board increase in the daily minimum wage and the lowering of the prices of goods among other economic demands.

The group will greet this historic day with a massive mobilization and a short program at the Bacolod City Public Plaza, ULAN said in a press statement.

On the other hand, the National Congress of Unions in the Sugar Industry of the Philippines (NACUSIP) and the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA), together with the Congress of Independent Organizations and the Philippine Agricultural Commercial Industrial Workers Union, will hold a forum and a press conference at the Negros Press Club at 10 a.m.

One of the issues to be taken up is the call for the scrapping of the proposed direct sugar importation by the industry manufacturers in the food and beverage industry.

The groups will also tackle wage increase.

More than 50 labor leaders will attend the forum, according to Sancho./PN
