BACOLOD City – In Negros Occidental, several candidates in the May 9, 2022 elections signed a peace covenant on Jan.27 at Kapanalig Hall of Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania here.
The signing was spearheaded by Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOCPPO) acting director Colonel Leo Pamittan.
Reelectionist Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson was not in attendance because he was on quarantine; he tested positive of coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19).
His challenger, however, former Bacolod City congressman John Orola, was able to sign the covenant along with other candidates for other elective posts.
Before the signing of the peace covenant, the candidates took an oath to help keep the elections peaceful and orderly.
The peace covenant was a reiteration of the election rules and regulations of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to ensure clean, honest, accurate, meaningful, and peaceful elections.
Pamittan thanked the candidates for participating in the peace covenant signing.
