BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental is ready to accommodate more tourists now that the world-famous Boracay Island has been closed.
The Provincial Tourism Office said beach resorts and other attractions in the province are prepared for a surge in tourist arrivals.
But Provincial Tourism Officer Christine Manzanarez stressed tourist attractions in Negros Occidental, especially mountain resorts, do not have “what Boracay can offer.”
She was referring to beach parties and other excursion activities in the famed island resort under the political and territorial jurisdiction of Malay, Aklan.
Tourists who come to the province are usually those who want to “unwind and relax,” according to Manzanarez.
“The market of Boracay is different from the market of our resorts here,” she stressed.
Moreover, Negros Occidental resorts and hotels cannot house a huge number of tourists compared to those in Boracay, Manzanarez said./PN
