BACOLOD City – The Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) held Lakbay Palay in Murcia, Negros Occidental on April 2.
This annual farmers’ field day and forum, sponsored by PhilRice’s Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Program, showcases rice production technologies and processes.
It aims to help farmers achieve rice sufficiency and supply through promoting balanced fertilizer use, showcasing cost-reducing and yield-enhancing rice technologies, and providing farmers with opportunities to discuss technologies with experts.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson cited the success of the event that drew over 500 farmers from different cities and towns across the province.
“RCEF stands as proof that with the right support, knowledge and technology, we can enhance our productivity and competitiveness in the global market. Through the matured technologies showcased by PhilRice, we continue to empower our farmers to achieve higher yields, reduce production costs, and increase their income,” he said.
The governor added that with the agriculture sector’s vital role in ensuring strong food value chains and promoting a vibrant rural economy, it is fair and reasonable to further equip farmers.
He assured farmers of the continuous assistance from the provincial government through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
Gov. Lacson also thanked PhilRice-Negros for their support and for being a constant partner in promoting agriculture programs in the province./PN
