Negros Palaro medalists receive cash incentives

BACOLOD City – Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. gave cash incentives to Negrense medalists in the recent 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

The amount awarded totaled P685,000, according to Romeo Sison, Provincial Department of Education (DepEd) sports head.

Awarded were athletes who bagged a total of 83 gold, 43 silver and 59 bronze medals.
Coaches, chaperons and trainers also received cash incentives.

For regular sports, gold medal was worth P5,500; silver, P3,500 and bronze, P2,000.

For special events and demonstration sports (futsal, wushu, wrestling and billiards), medalists got P3,000 for gold; P2,000 for silver and P1,000 for bronze medals.

Athletes from Negros Occidental were part of the Western Visayas contingent to the 2014 Palarong Pambansa. The region placed third overall behind the National Capital Region (NCR) and host CALABARZON.

Medal tally was used to determine this year’s Palaro overall champion.

NCR got 107 gold, 64 silver and 56 bronze medals.

Host CALABARON got 38 gold, 51 silver and 51 bronze medals.

Western Visayas harvested 32 gold, 33 silver and 38 bronze medals./PN
