BACOLOD City – Task Force Crusaders (TFC) accused Negros Occidental provincial engineer Ernie Mapa of violating Republic Act 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees).
In a letter, TFC national deputy commander John Chiong asked Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas Paul Elmer Clemente to conduct an investigation.
TFC is a volunteer group formed to serve as a “counterintelligence unit” of the Office of the President and the Office of the Solicitor General, and help the Duterte administration in its campaign against illegal drugs, graft and corruption, and crimes.
Mapa said he was surprised by accusations he had “ill-gotten wealth.”
Chiong alleged that Mapa owned eight vehicles, three houses and a lot in a high-end subdivision.
According to Mapa, one of the cars was actually owned by his wife’s employer, Sealand Industrial Supply.
His wife had been working in that company for 15 years, he stressed.
Mapa, a resident of Goldcrest Subdivision in Barangay Bata, also denied owning three houses and a lot in some other posh subdivision.
The provincial engineer, however, said he bought a new house recently thru a loan from the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund).
“We only have two houses, not three,” said Mapa. “The houses were bought by me and my wife through hard work. Don’t we have any right to at least enjoy the fruits of our labor?”
Mapa said TFC’s allegations were baseless. He believed these were instigated by an engineer who was displaced during an office reorganization./PN
