MANILA – Members of Negros Shiseikan Kendo Club made their presence felt during the 6th Philippine National Kendo Tournament held recently at the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City.
Lyndi Mendoza spearheaded the gold medal winners as she ruled the women’s individual event. Her Shiseikan teammate Rita Alexis Cuadra took home the bronze medal.
Robert Carabuena Jr., on the other hand, won a gold medal in the men’s individual event, while Jackie Louise and Juneseth Magpusao settled for bronze medal finishes in the tween’s individual event.
In the women’s team event, the Shiseikan-B team, led by Mao Akuto, Mary Liberty Amido, Diane Virgula, and Suzzane Yu, defeated Shiseikan-A team, led by Mendoza Rio Akuto, Suzuki Chisato, and Rita Alexia Cuadra.
Howard Mercado, on the other hand, earned the fighting spirit award in the teen’s individual event, while Yuri Haderly also gained the same special citation in the men’s team event.
“These phenomenal athletes have demonstrated unparalleled skill, teamwork, and spirit, leading the team to victory. Their dedication and resilience exemplify what it means to be champions, inspiring us all to strive for greatness,” the club said in a statement.
The two-day 6th Philippine National Kendo Tournament was held in coordination with the Davao City Sports Development Division./PN
