NEGROS Occidental-based softball players clinched a slot into the World Series after ruling the major and junior finals of the 2018 Little League Phoenix Asia Pacific Regional Softball Championship in Singapore.

The major league players dominated the host team 20-0 in the finals held at the United World College of South East Asia field to clinch the title on Sunday.

Mentored by Lizvi Jalandoni, the players also defeated the Singapore team twice in the preliminary round 27-0 and 15-0.

This is the second straight time the Negrense squad will compete in the World Series. Last year in Portland, Oregon the team placed fifth.

“We are very thankful to everyone who supported these girls one way or another,” Jalandoni said. “We hope our provincial government will continue to support us in the upcoming World Series.”

Meanwhile the junior team of head coach Roselle Hulleza also stamped class in Singapore – blanking Australia 10-0 in six innings to notch a berth in the World Series in Kirkland, Washington.

“It was really an answered prayer winning against a very strong opponent like Australia,” said Hulleza. “Now that we are back in the World Series, we will try to improve on our silver finish last year.”/PN
