MANILA – Negros Occidental tracksters bagged four more golds as they continued to haul medals in the 2018 Philippine National Games at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Bernalyn Bejoy of Negros 1st Team netted her second medal after taking home the gold in 400m dash on Tuesday. Earlier she won a silver in 400m hurdles.
Also winning gold for Negros 1st Team were Trexie dela Torre in the youth division of long jump and Arniel Ferrera in men’s hammer throw. Isabel Oqueriza finished with silver in 400m run.
Team Bago City, meanwhile, registered one gold and one silver with veteran Rosie Villarito topping the women’s javelin throw and John Carl Pamatian placing second in 4km walk.
DIAZ WINS, TOO
Meanwhile 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz also stamped class in the competition after capturing gold in weightlifting at the Naga City covered court.
Diaz submitted a total of 205kg after lifting 90kg in the snatch and 115kg in the clean and jerk in the women’s open competition.
Her 90kg in snatch was 4kg heavier than her performance in the IWF-World Championships in Anaheim, California last year.
On the other hand her clean and jerk failed to match the national record of 123kg she created in the Philippine National Games in 2012.
“Happy na ako dahil ito ang target namin ni coach (Tony Agustin) – ang maka-gold sa PNG,” said Diaz, 27. “Lalaban talaga ako para sa gold sa Asiad dahil hindi tayo pinalad sa huling dalawang sabak ko.”/PN
