NEGROS Occidental plans to appeal its forfeiture loss to Iloilo in secondary boys football finals of the 2018 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet.

Negros head coach Ian Combate said they wanted to ask the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6, organizer of the regionals, to let them proceed with the game that was cut short by a brawl.

ā€œUnfair naman para sa mga players nga na-pierde sila indi bangud sa resulta sang hampang kundi sa nangin desisyon sang tournament officials nga e-forfeit na lang ang amo nga game,ā€ Combate told RMN Sports.

The secondary boys football finals on Feb. 21 was halted with just 20 minutes into it after Supresencia, Combate and some of his players figured in a brawl. The match was forfeited in favor of Iloilo.

Combate insisted that it was Ilonggo referee Steve Supresencia who head-butted him first when he complained on a non-call and he just retaliated. The incident turned into a melee with the players joining.

If the DepEd Region 6 grants its request for a rematch, Negros will ask the organizer to assign a referee who is from neither Iloilo nor Negros Occidental, Combate said.

The Negros head coach is optimistic that their appeal will be granted. Gov. Alfredo MaraƱon Jr., Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and the Bacolod City government are backing them up, he said./PN
