ILOILO City – Police personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will be subjected to random neuropsychiatric and behavioral tests this month.
According to ICPO director, Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, the tests will be conducted to evaluate a policeman’s mental state and behavior to determine if there are cognitive changes resulting from central nervous system diseases or other disorders.
The higher police command ordered the conduct of the tests, Floro said.
“This is very important. The results will guide us on what to do with policemen having behavioral problems,” Floro said.
One such policeman was SPO1 Glenn Esguerra assigned at the Iloilo City Hall. He was accused of shooting Rhomar Martirez, 46, a barangay kagawad of San Pedro, Molo district after a heated argument last month.
Esguerra, currently under restriction in Camp Delgado – the headquarters of the Police Regional Office 6 – faces a criminal charge (attempted homicide) and an administrative case (grave misconduct)./PN
