BACOLOD City – The 490-meter long esplanade along the stretch of Sum-ag river in Purok San Jose 1, Barangay Sum-ag is now open to the public.
The inauguration and blessing were held on Nov. 16 as part of the village’s Martesan Festival, according to Rodney Carmona, Sum-ag barangay captain.
Cong. Greg Gasataya, who led the activity, said the budget for the esplanade was part of the P20.4-million construction of the floodwall project at the riverbank of Sum-ag river.
The fund was provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways in the 2020 annual budget.
According to Gasataya, this was only Phase 1 of the floodwall project aimed at preventing soil erosion.
An additional budget could fund another two-kilometer esplanade, said Gasataya.
The other esplanade is along the Lupit river in Barangay Villamonte beside the Bacolod City Government Center. It was inaugurated in 2019./PN
