KALIBO, Aklan – A drug surrenderee was arrested in a sting operation in Barangay New Buswang in this capital town, a police report showed.

The 43-year-old resident Romel “Pare-pare” Taytayon was caught after he sold shabu to an undercover officer for P1,000 around 12:08 p.m. on Friday, the report further stated.

Joint elements of the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6, Aklan Police Provincial Intelligence Unit, Aklan Provincial Mobile Company, and Kalibo police station staged the operation.

When frisked, Taytayon yielded five more suspected sachets of shabu, police said.

Police also confiscated from Taytayon a mobile phone and P205 cash.

Taytayon – who turned himself in during the Philippine National Police’s Operation Tokhang in 2016 – denied that he was still involved in illegal drug activities.

He said he stopped using illegal drugs when President Rodrigo Duterte launched the “war on drugs.”

“Hindi ako nagtitinda ngdroga. Kahit i-drug test pa ako. Pauwi na ako sakay ng trisikel ng hinarang ng kapulisan,” Taytayon added.

Chief Inspector Frensy Andrade, chied of Aklan PDEU, said Taytayon’s shabu was sourced from Roxas City in the neighboring province of Capiz.

“Nakontak namin siya noongAti-Atihan [Festival]pa. Doon siya bumibili sa Roxas City ngdroga,” Andrade said.

Taytayon also denied that he was involved in theft incidents in the town.

Taytayon was detained and facing charges for violation of sections 5 and 11 of Republic 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
