KALIBO, Aklan – Two community fish landing centers (CFLCs) were turned over in the towns of Tangalan and Numancia in Aklan.

The CFLCs are under the Targeted Action to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation program of the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The program is aimed at helping fishing communities by helping to increase their income.

There are currently seven other CFLCs in Aklan. They are located in Kalibo, New Washington, Batan, Buruanga, Ibajay, Nabas, and Altavas.

Tangalan town mayor Gary Fuentes said the CFLC in Barangay Dumatad will be of big help to the fishing communities there.

The CFLC has two chest and upright freezers, weighing scales, fish buckets, stainless fish stalls, and other post-harvest equipment.

In Numancia, the CFLC is located in Barangay Navitas. Two fiber patrol boats were also given to the local officials there.

BFAR turned over the CFLCs to the town’s local government on June 22.

BFAR provincial officer May Guanco said they will turn over another CFLC in Makato in the first week of July.

A CFLC in Malay is also under way. Guanco said its bidding process has started.

“It costs around P3 million for each fish landing center, including post-harvest facilities,” Guanco added.

The CFLCs will serve as hubs for landing fish and fish products. They will also serve as training centers for processing, value adding, conservation and protection of fishery and marine resources. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
