KALIBO, Aklan – Another bridge is being built at the Aklan River to provide easier access for locals in this capital town.
Mayor William Lachica said the 96.35-lineal-meter suspension hanging bridge is worth P10 million.
It will connect Sitio Pegados in Barangay Bakhaw Sur to Sitio Karumahan in Barangay Bakhaw Norte, Lachica added.
The bridge project’s groundbreaking ceremony was conducted last week.
“This will connect other sitios and communities of Bakhaw Norte and will promote rural development,” said Lachica. “The project is also a big help for residents of flood-prone areas of Bakhaw Sur and Bakhaw Norte.”
He added that the bridge, once finished, will hasten the delivery of agricultural products between and among villages in Kalibo.
There is also another ongoing bridge project in the town. The 160-lineal-meter suspension hanging bridge worth P16.85 million will connect Barangay Bakhaw Sur to the bangkerohan in Barangay Bakhaw Norte.
With the bridge projects, Lachica said “residents in Bakhaw Norte won’t have to resort to cross the Aklan River using wooden bancas during rainy season.”
