SAN JOSE, Antique – Communication will be a priorityunder a new manager at the National Food Authority (NFA) Antique.
Fresco B. Canoy plans to have constant dialogue with rice farmers on ways to enhance the agency’s rice procurement program, and with traders and millers with regard to supply and prices.
“I am open to discuss with you issues and concerns to keep our partnership [and] maintain … sufficient rice buffer stock for the province,” Canoy told the audience during a recent turnover ceremony.
Canoy, who was from Sultan Kudarat, was taking over the position of Oliver L. Cambas, who was transferred to Capiz.
Canoy also vowed to continue whatever program Cambas has started.
He said the palayprocurement program is ongoing. Farmers who want to avail themselves ofmechanical driers at the NFA shall coordinate with the agency with regard to the schedule, the new manager said.
“We could not accommodate all requests, especially that it’s harvest season, but we could device mechanisms favorable to all,” said Canoy.
National Food Authority Region 6 director Rex Estoperez — a native of Pandan town — graced the ceremony held alongside the forum “Ugnayan” on Sept. 16.
Farmers’ associations, cooperatives and grains retailers, among other stakeholders, attended the forum and ceremony.
Managers from other NFA provincial offices in Region 6 and Assistant Regional Director Bobot Alojado, who has roots in Culasi, also attended the events. (PIA/PN)
