New HFMD cases recorded in Capiz

CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reported an increase of three new cases of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in the province.

The total number of HFMD cases has now reached 47, according to the data released by the PHO in its Provincial Weekly Notifiable Disease Case Bulletin covering the period from January 1 to February 24, 2024.

This is 81 percent lower than the 248 HFMD cases recorded in the same period in 2023.

This disease is caused by a virus, is highly contagious, and commonly affects young children.

Its symptoms include painful and ulcerated mouth sores, skin rashes with red spots and blisters often found on the palms of hands, soles of feet, buttocks, and genital area, as well as fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes, and a sore throat./PN
