BACOLOD City – San Carlos City in Negros Occidental opened its P180-million new city hospital Dec. 8.
This 225-bed hospital sits on a 1.9-hectare area in Sta. Ana in Barangay Palampas, approximately 700 meters from the city hall, a release from the City Information Office said.
Hospital Chief Dr. Archilles Ponferrada said the present condition of the old hospital is no longer conducive for patients who are mostly accommodated in alleys and hallways for lack of rooms.
The old hospital has a 50-bed facility but at present accommodates up to more than 200 patients.
āOperations in the new hospital will start immediately after the electricity and other essential installations will be finished before 2016 ends. We also plan to bring in additional services for ultra-sound, Computed Tomography or CT Scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI),ā Ponferrada said.
According to Ponferrada, some of the patients do not only come from San Carlos City but also from nearby localities including the municipalities of Calatrava, Toboso, Vallehermoso and the cities of Canlaon, Escalante and Guihulngan.
The new facility needs the services of 27 doctors including specialists and surgeons. Currently, it has 22 doctors, so additional physicians and nurses will be taken in next year.
The first three phases of said building will be opened while the next two stages of construction are still on-going.
Arch. Hans Christian Dela Victoria of the City Engineering Department said the phase 1 of the building consists of the administrative office, doctorsā offices, out-patient department, clinical laboratories, blood bank, pharmacy and emergency rooms while phase II also consists of two operating rooms (major and minor), delivery room, nursery, central sterile supply room, and three OB wards.
The ground floor of the two-storey phase 3 is made up of two surgical wards, intensive care unit, medical ward, pediatric ward, two isolation wards, eight isolation rooms and an eye center while its second floor with elevator consists of four general wards and 12 semi-private rooms.
In between phases 1 and 2 buildings, the TB Dots, gender sensitivity clinic and HIV clinic can also be located.
The two-storey fourth phase will house the canteen, staff dining and general kitchen and hemo-dialysis center while its 2nd floor will have the 12 private rooms and two wards.
Dela Victoria added that the fifth phase will consist of the generator room, laundry department, oxygen manifold room, storage area and central water tank and morgue at a separate area but within the vicinity. (PIA)
