ILOILO City – Travelers will soon have options in going to Antique from Iloilo, and vice versa.
The estimated five- to six-kilometer road connecting the two provinces is “currently in the works,” according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Western Visayas.
The Iloilo-Antique connector, or the inter-provincial boundary connector, would link the provinces of Iloilo and Antique via Barangay Igtuble in Tubungan, Iloilo and Barangay Aningalan in San Remigio, Antique.
According to Engineer Jose Al Fruto, assistant regional director of DPWH, existing roads in San Remigio going to Tubungan are being redeveloped.
On the other hand, a new road from Tubungan’s Barangay Igtuble up to the boundary in San Remigio will be constructed to complete the connector.
Fruto said upon the project’s completion “by 2023 to 2024,” people from both provinces can travel back and forth efficiently.
“If we can have that connector, we can easily go to central Antique from Iloilo and vice versa kay dasig na,” said Fruto.
Currently, passengers from Iloilo to Antique and vice versa are traveling via San Joaquin town in southern Iloilo. The government, according to Fruto, aims to provide more alternate routes to cater those residing in hinterland villages./PN
