New ‘int’l health concern’ not yet verified, says DOH

MANILA – The alleged “international health concern” making the rounds on social media has yet to be verified by the World Health Organization (WHO), the  Department of Health (DOH) said.

In a statement on Friday, DOH said reliable sources of information currently do not support circulating social media posts about an alleged international health concern that allegedly originated from China.

“Wala itong kumpirmasyon mula sa binanggit na bansa o sa World Health Organization (WHO),” the Department added.

The DOH also noted that the Philippines is an active member of the WHO network that follows the International Health Regulations (IHR), which gives updates on international health concerns.

Huwag tayong magpakalat ng maling impormasyon at kalituhan,” it added.

DOH’s statement addressed social media claims about a new epidemic allegedly overwhelming hospitals and crematories in China involving influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19.

The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines has earlier dismissed the social media rumors as “fake news.”/PN
