KALIBO, Aklan — The construction of the new Kalibo-Numancia bridge spanning the Aklan River is ongoing.
The P370-million new bridge is being built parallel to the old one, which is also being rehabilitated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Officials consider the bridge vital to the socioeconomic development of Kalibo and Numancia, as it will serve as an access route to the towns in eastern and western Aklan, respectively.
The new bridge project is one of the major road network projects that the Public Works department has lined up for Aklan.
It is also seen to greatly contribute to the growth of the province’s tourism industry and provide for easy transport of people, goods and services.
Scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015, the bridge is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The project involves the construction of a two-lane thoroughfare, with 15 spans, measuring 30 meters each, with a width of 7.32 meters and baluster-type concrete railings.
Last month, Aklan officials met with DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson to see the progress of the bridge project. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
