ILOILO – The municipal mayor of New Lucena town was recuperating at a private hospital in Iloilo City after testing positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Liecel Mondejar-Seville confirmed to Panay News that she and her husband knew of the results of their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests over the weekend.
“Sang Sabado, nagpa-hospital kami kay ang purpose namon mapa-workup kami sa cardio sang husband ko. Pero ti kay requirement sang hospital before admission ang RT-PCR (he was swab bed). It turned out nga nag-positive sia,” Seville said.
The mayor subsequently underwent swabbing around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, “and pagka gab-i naggwa ang result nga positive man ako.”
Seville said her husband – former municipal administrator Rico – had a fever on Mach 31.
“Gin-imnan nya lang man sang bulong then he got better,” Seville said. “But sang nagpa-hospital na kami for another reason, that’s when we found out.”
Seville said she had a slight cough while his husband was experiencing loose bowel movement.
“So far okay man kami kag ginabulong naman,” she added.
As of this writing, the local chief executive was yet to determine the source of her infection.
Personnel of the Municipal Health Office traced some 27 close contacts, which included municipal hall employees and their household members. Swabbing was underway./PN
