BACOLOD City – The National Food Authority (NFA) Provincial Office will have its new site.
Department of Agriculture (DA) secretary Emmanuel Piñol has approved the relocation of NFA’s new office to Bago City, Negros Occidental.
“It’s ridiculous because you don’t expect farmers to go there and sell the palay in the middle of the city,” Piñol said
The Provincial Government will allot P50 million for the construction of the new site where drying facilities and grains storage will be established.
“We will go to where the farmers are. That’s the direction of the president,” Piñol stressed.
Piñol also dismissed fears of the farmers that NFA will no longer buy their stocks and upon reaching the optimal level of buffer stocking at 30 days.
“It’s not gonna happen that way because you have to understand that palay and rice,” he said. (With a report from PIA/PN)
