BACOLOD City – A new market and food terminal will soon rise on corner San Juan Street-North Capitol Road.
The P114.6-million Negros First Pala-Pala Market and Food Terminal will be put up on a capitol property currently hosting a wet market.
It will have two floors and three sections, Negros Occidental provincial engineer Ernie Mapa told reporters on Monday.
The ground floor will house 13 rentable kitchens, 14 rentable storage areas, 10 bagsakan areas, 10 food kiosks, 24 fish stalls, seven meat stalls, eight dry good stalls, and 16 vending kiosks, a design blueprint showed.
At the second floor, there will be six small function halls that can accommodate 132 people each and seven large ones with a capacity of 360 persons each.
Construction starts Jan. 1, 2017. Vendors at the old wet market will be asked to temporarily occupy makeshift stalls. “Once (the new market is) completed, they will be the priority (in choosing occupants),” said Mapa.
The project will cost P114,651,446.30, he said.
The Sweet City Captel will also be renovated starting 2017.
The firm AC Rivero will develop a medium-scale, four-storey hotel at the back of the building and rehabilitate the existing dormitory rooms.
“It will be a mixed dormitory-and-hotel facility,” Mapa said.
According to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., government employees from other parts of Negros Occidental may avail themselves of cheap lodging at the Sweet City Captel when staying in this capital city./PN
