ILOILO City – A new road that will connect the towns of Leon and Alimodian in the central part of Iloilo province is currently being constructed.
According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 4th District Engineering Office’s Engr. Cynthia Caigoy, the P17.014-million 1.9-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) is from Barangay Bobon in Leon to Barangay Manasa in Alimodian.
The work includes clearing and grubbing, cutting of trees, structural excavation, embankment, subgrade preparation, installation of pipe culverts and pouring of Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP).
Caigoy said the road would serve as an alternate access to various tourist destinations in Leon and Alimodian.
“The project will also benefit farmers. There will be faster delivery of agricultural products from the highland barangays in Leon and Alimodian going to Iloilo City and other towns,” Caigoy said.
DPWH is also hastening the concreting of road in Leon from Barangay Bucari to Barangay Camandag, leading to Imoy and Kataw waterfalls in the amount of P152,300 million.
The project involves the concreting of 2.880 kilometers of road and 146.15 lineal meters approaches, including excavation, embankment, slope protection, reinforced concrete pipe culvert, masonry line ditch, chevron signs, metal guard rails and pavement markings.
The project also includes concreting of 1.281 kilometer access road leading to Kataw Falls and 137 lineal meters access road leading to Imoy Falls; construction of two (2) 27-lineal meter foot bridges, two 36-meter Flat Slab bridges, one 37-lineal meter hanging foot bridge and one triple barrel box culvert with steel railings; and provision of comfort rooms and shower rooms with septic tanks at Imoy Falls and Kataw falls.
These road projects would help boost the tourism industry in the towns of Leon and Alimodian and improve the economic condition of their people with the faster and more convenient transport of their farm products to the market./PN
