BACOLOD City – The police is warning the public: There seems to be a new scam in the town of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
According to a village councilor there, she was victimized by a man who introduced himself as a representative from the Department of Education (DepEd).
“Naga-home visitation kuno sila,” the complainant told police.
The person was reportedly targeting those houses with only the children/students left at home.
“He was asking the students about their modules. But unknowingly, he was carting away money and gadgets of the children,” she lamented.
Captain Hancel Lumandaz, acting chief of police of the Pontevedra municipal police station, said the victim only discovered that her valuables were gone after the suspect left their home.
As of press time, Lumandaz said they have not received any similar reports.
Nevertheless, “the public should be more careful and vigilant,” he said.
Lumandaz said investigation was ongoing. He urged those who have the same experience to immediately contact the authorities./PN
