BACOLOD City – The Silver MassKara Festival Organization (SMFO) will put up another festival site in this city.
Councilor Israel Salanga, chairperson of the city council’s Committee on Tourism, said 24 additional food and beverage kiosks will be established beside the Annex Building of the Bacolod Government Center (BGC)
“We will be opening this new festival site on Oct. 8,” Salanga noted.
According to Salanga, the 19 kiosks in the Football Area of the BGC were already removed, so they have to establish another festival site to accommodate those who will be willing to do business during the festival.
“The additional kiosks are located at the back of the City Accessor’s Office and near the Annex Building. It will be designed as a food and drinks plaza with a central area for eating,” he said.
Each kiosk will go for P15,000.
Applicants must submit their residence certificate along with duly accomplished forms and valid identification cards. All payments must be made through the bank.
The MassKara is an annual festival with highlights held every fourth Sunday of October. Festival sites include the Bacolod Public Plaza, the Lacson Tourism Strip and the Bacolod Government Center.
The word “MassKara” is a portmanteau, coined by the late artist Ely Santiago from mass (a multitude of people), and the Spanish word cara (face), thus forming MassKara (a multitude of faces).
The word is also a pun on maskara, Filipino for “mask” (itself from Spanish máscara), since it is a prominent feature of the festival and are always adorned with smiling faces, giving rise to Bacolod being called the “City of Smiles.”/PN
