ROXAS City – A newborn girl was abandoned along a feeder road in a secluded area in Barangay Hipona, Pontevedra, Capiz.
The baby was taken to a hospital and will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development upon discharge, police said.
Investigators were still trying to identify who left the infant, whom a resident found at around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Joewe Amias checked the area upon hearing a baby’s cry and found the infant placed in a white sack with her arm exposed and umbilical cord still attached, said Inspector Edgar Nuida, Pontevedra police chief, told Panay News.
“Suno sa nakakita posible nakahibi ang bata kay ginutom ini bangod madugay nga wala ka dede kag kinagat sang subay,” Nuida said.
“Nakasulod ang bata sa sako kag gin-bilin lang sa kilid karsada kag matag-as ang hilamon,” the policeman added.
Residents told the police they noticed a tricycle driven by a man and with a female passenger leaving the site where the baby was abandoned. They also noticed the sack, which they thought was filled with garbage, Nuida said.
The baby was taken to a clinic in Pontevedra and later transferred to the Bailan District Hospital.
“Normal ang [kondisyon sang] bata,” said Police Officer 2 Rhea Batuigas, investigator. “Nagka-infection lang suno sa doctor kay nakakaon sang higko kag almost 12 hours nga ara sa sulod sang sako.”
“Sige pa amon investigation. We are still clueless about the identity of the parents ukon sin-o man ang mga responsible sa paghaboy sang bata sa kilid sang dalan,” she added./PN
