NFA creates task force vs erring grains bizmen

ROXAS City – Anyone can now report people involved in the illegal grains trade to a National Food Authority (NFA) special task force.

The NFA Security Services and Investigation Department-led Kontra Abuso Task Force will be receiving complaints from the public about the violations committed in the grains trade, according to NFA-Capiz spokeswoman Mary Christie Harion.

This measure is especially aimed at grains businessmen who are doing business illegally.

Harion said anyone can send reports of violation to the task force’s hotline 0966-725-8765.

“The task force will receive calls or text messages from Monday to Sunday and will immediately provide assistance or reply to calls or texts and will advise the client instantly once an assistance or action has been performed,” Harion added.

As of last month, NFA-Capiz’s Security Services and Investigation Department has recorded six cases of alleged diversion and unexplained depletion of rice stocks.

While investigations are ongoing, the rice allocations of alleged erring grains businessmen are suspended, Harion stressed.

If found guilty, they will be fined from P1,000 to P4,000. Their NFA license will also be cancelled.

The NFA hopes the public to support the measure. (With a report from PIA/PN)
