NFA to limit rice sales as supply yet to normalize

The National Food Authority failed to secure offers for the supply of 203,000 metric tons of rice under a government-to-government tender with Thailand and Vietnam due to some provisions of the terms of reference for the importation. ABS-CBN NEWS

MANILA – The National Food Authority (NFA) on Wednesday said it will continue to limit selling rice to customers as the overall supply has yet to normalize.

Kahit sabihin nating limitado ang ating pagbebenta … gagawin po namin hanggat hindi mag-normalize ‘yung ating supply,” NFA spokesperson Rex Estoperez said in an interview with GMA News.

NFA retailers have placed a 5-kilogram limit for each consumer per day as shipments of government-subsidized rice have yet to be fully released.

Ginagawan natin ng paraan na lahat po ng ating mga pamilihang bayan ma-sustain po kahit limitado ‘yung ating binebentang bigas,” Estoperez said.

The NFA has ordered 250,000 metric tons of rice to increase the supply stock – 130,000 MT from Vietnam and 120,000 MT from Thailand.

It also announced an additional importation of 250,000 MT which would be coursed through private firms.

The NFA, however, said that shipments have yet to be fully released to retailers because of inclement weather. (GMA News)
